Why won’t my pool heater ignite?
Common causes: no gas/electric supply, bad igniter, tripped high-limit, low flow, or a lockout after failed tries. Note any error code on the display before resetting repeatedly.
Heater says “no flow” but the pump is on — what now?
Flow switches need enough GPM. Dirty filters, closed valves, or a failing pump can trip “no flow.” Fix circulation first; replacing the heater won’t help if water isn’t moving through it.
Is it normal for a spa to take forever to heat?
Spas heat faster than pools, but a dirty filter, wrong valve positions, or a weak heater will drag it out. Confirm spa mode/isolation valves and that the heater is actually firing.
Can low water chemistry damage a pool heater?
Yes. Scaling from high calcium/pH or corrosion from bad chemistry shortens heat-exchanger life. Balance water year-round, not only in swim season.
Should I run the heater in a North Texas freeze?
Heaters aren’t a substitute for freeze protection. Circulate water per freeze guidance and protect plumbing. After a hard freeze, inspect for cracked manifolds and fittings before firing the heater.
Heat pump vs gas heater — which fails more in DFW?
Both fail differently: gas units have ignition and heat-exchanger issues; heat pumps struggle in cold snaps and need clean coils/airflow. Choose based on use pattern; repair based on symptoms, not brand lore.
Heater fires then shuts off after a few minutes
Often overheating, flow, or exhaust issues. Note the error code and whether the filter pressure is high — don’t keep restarting into the same fault.
Is a propane tank heater different to diagnose than natural gas?
Ignition logic is similar; fuel delivery differs. Empty tanks and regulator issues fake “heater dead” calls — confirm fuel first on propane systems.
Spa heats but the pool side won’t — shared heater?
Usually valve position or spa vs pool mode. Confirm isolation valves and that water is actually routed through the heater for the body of water you want heated.
How often should a heater be descaled in DFW?
